(Sky News) - Amanda Knox was visited by her family in an Italian prison Saturday, their first meeting since she was found guilty in the murder and sexual assault of her former roommate.
Her parents visited her at Perugia's maximum security Capanne jail, along with her sister and two half-sisters.
Knox, 22, was convicted Friday for the murder of British student Meredith Kercher, 21, who was found semi-naked in the bedroom of the house they shared. Her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, 25, was found guilty of the same charges but given a year less in prison. Both are serving their sentences in the same jail, where sources say the couple is being monitored for suicide.
Knox's legal team Luciano Ghirga and Maria Del Grosso were also allowed to visit and said she was feeling ''depressed, angry and very emotional'' after the year-long trial.
“Amanda was very upset when she saw them,” Del Grosso said about the Knox family visit. “She was crying and she was very emotional. She hugged them all tightly. I was told that it was a very heartbreaking moment,” Del Grosso said.
Ghirga said that Knox's cellmates on the second floor waited up for her and comforted her with a ''glass of warm milk'' when she was returned to her cell early Saturday.
''I saw her for an hour and she was very fraught. It was a mixture of tiredness, anger and stress - this has gone on for more than two years and it should not have. She is innocent and we will fight," Ghirga said.
''Amanda cried for a long time before she eventually got to sleep. She literally cried herself to sleep. She was wailing and it was horrible to see and hear,” a jail source said.
