Memphis, Tn - Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong said he's committed to the fight against youth violence at a weekend new conference.
"We have to do something to take guns out of the hands of young people," said Armstrong.
The message comes on the heels of a shooting that happened after a Central High School basketball game on Friday night.
"As you can see with this incident, guns and kids don't mix. You put the two together and you have a recipe for disaster."
A 17-year-old unidentified male MCS student was taken to the Med in extremely critical condition. He died on Sunday night.
Armstrong said, "an argument took place at that game and escalated into the parking lot and the victim was struck."
He says he will be reaching out to Memphis City Schools this week to discuss and review security policies between MPD and MCS to determine if changes need to be made.
Meanwhile, MCS says grief counselors were made available to students and staff.
