MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A maintenance team digging at a Memphis apartment complex discovered human remains Thursday.

Bones were discovered Thursday at the complex on Colorado and Tennessee South Memphis. Investigators spent hours gathering more human remains from the location since plumbers made the discovery Thursday.

But who the person was or why they were killed, still a mystery.
Human bones were being dug up and laid out one by one.

"They're piecing it together like a puzzle. Look like it's all coming together," said Ronald Malone who made the discovery.

The crime scene on Friday all started as a plumbing problem at the apartment complex. Korea Johnson who moved in two weeks ago said her toilet was stopping up and running over.

"Two plumbers came out and they said they we digging and noticed bones," said Johnson.

"Look like dinosaur bones or something to me. I knew it wasn't a dog bone because it was big and fat and round. So me personally, I picked up the bone and said something is weird about this bone because of how it was shaped," said Malone.

Malone, who lives in the complex, was among the men who made the discovery. Malone said he grabbed a garbage bag and put the bones inside, tied it up and took them to police.

"And then I showed it to the guy and he said yep, its human bones. They told me to show them where the bones were and we came back here," said Malone. "Everybody is going to want to know why you chose to take those bones and say hey cops look at this? I don't know. I just know I wasn't about to take all those bones with me so they could say I was hauling somebody's body around in a bag so I took one bone. It looked like a leg."

We're told investigators also found some clothing; however, the remains have not been identified.

"It's weird because it must've been before we moved here because I have walked through that little spot many times, but I never thought I was walking over somebody."

We're told the plumbing issue was eventually repaired. If anyone has any information on this case, please contact 528-CASH.
