Energy Star washers are also easier on the threads. They clean your clothes without the rough turning and twisting of an agitator, there's also lots of room for bulky items like winter coats and comforters. Plus, with the reduced amount of water used, it cuts back on dryer time.

If the reduced drying time and utility savings aren't enough to convince you to switch, this tidbit of information might.

Homeowners who purchase Energy Star appliances are eligible for a 30 percent tax credit on up to $1,500 in costs. But, that credit only applies to certain items like doors, windows and water heaters.
