Memphis, Tn - New DNA evidence points away from the convicted murderers known as the West Memphis 3.
According to a new court filing on Monday, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley have been excluded from a DNA sample taken from the sneakers of victim Christopher Byers.
The Virginia based laboratory testing the samples is also nearing completion on new hair samples.
An evidentiary hearing on new evidence and juror misconduct has been scheduled for December.
The West Memphis 3 were convicted in the 1992 slaying of three eight-year-old boys. Damien Echols is currently on death row.
Since the conviction, the case has remained in the spotlight as new evidence has been uncovered. Several critically acclaimed documentaries have also cast doubt on the boys’ guilt.
