West Memphis, AR - Police say a West Memphis man was on a kamikaze mission when he deliberately ran his car carrying his wife and child into a semi this week.
The 29-year old man is now charged with three counts of attempted capital murder.
Prosecutors say he tried to kill his wife, child and the driver of the diesel truck he slammed into.
Investigators are still trying to figure out why.
Photos from the scene, show what a black Ford Taurus looked like after a head-on collision with an 18-wheeler.
It happened at Missouri Street and Center in West Memphis, Arkansas early Tuesday morning.
Police say the driver of the taurus, 29 year old Archie Ross, was trying to kill himself, his wife and his child by driving straight into the path of an on-coming diesel truck.
But not before leaving his sister-in-law and 2 small children on the side of road.
West Memphis Assistant Police Chief, Mike Allen says, "He stopped the car, made them get out or told them to get out of the car."
Moments later, Ross crashed, then jumped out of the car and ran away, with a possible broken knee.
According to a police report, Ross then threatened to kill an officer.
He was tased several times before being taken into custody.
Investigators aren't sure what led to the crash. Ross' sister in law told them he drove around with them for an hour, acting strangely, saying his wife was "setting him up" and they were "all going out together."
At the time of the crash, police say, Ross was on probation for a drug charge.
A blood test, taken from Ross at the scene had not been processed as of Thursday.
But despite the battered car, Ross' 6 year old son and wife amazingly had minor injuries.
Before the wreck, Ross' wife was able to strap herself and child into seat belts.
Allen says, "I think she saved her child's life, buckling up in the rear seat of the car. Under the circumstances i think she did everything she could do to save her life and child's life."
The driver of the diesel truck walked away from the wreck as well.
There is a history of domestic violence between Ross and his wife.
Ross was arrested in 2006 for punching his wife in the face after losing money, gambling.
