Memphis City Schools Fight Truancy

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The graduation rate in Memphis high schools is less than 70 percent district wide. In some schools, fewer than half of the kids earn a diploma. Dropping out often starts with being late to class, now Memphis City Schools is fighting truancy with a new in your face approach.

Memphis City Schools are sending truancy officers to some of the most troubled high schools. They're picking up truant kids and finding out why they're not in class. Some of their reasons reveal the struggles kids go through everyday just to get to school.
