Suspect Arrested in Orange Mound Store Clerk Murder

Memphis Police homicide investigators have charged a Memphis man in connection to a robbery and fatal shooting that occurred at an Orange Mound convenience store in January.

Investigators say this case was solved by an anonymous tip from Crime Stoppers.

Friday, March 6, 2009, 45-year old GEORGE WILLIAMS was charged with first degree murder in perpetration of a robbery. Williams was arrested the previous evening at the 4000 block of Ebbtide Street by detectives with the Criminal Apprehension Team.

On January 31, 2009, Mohammed Al-Hadi, 19, was shot during the business robbery of the Food Town Market located at 458 Buntyn Street. Al-Hadi was transported to Regional Medical Center where he later died. The incident was captured on the store’s video surveillance. Homicide investigators released the video footage of the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle to the local media outlets the day after the crime occurred to seek the public’s help in solving the case.

Also located at the home, where Williams was arrested, was other evidence in the case including the suspect’s vehicle, a white 1995 Chevrolet van.

Investigators say Williams was positively identified as the person responsible for the robbery and the homicide of the store clerk.
