MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The following represent brief/broad descriptions. It is not intended, nor should it be construed, to represent a comprehensive and/or exhaustive description of all duties/responsibilities and requisite skills associated with the position.
CHIEF PHOTOGRAPHER
Provide guidance/leadership to staff of photographers. Maintain vehicle fleet, camera equipment/inventory. Conduct regular training sessions with photographers. Provide new photographer orientation/safety training. Provide shooting skills for news pkgs, as needed. Requires degree in Journalism or related field and minimum of 3 years “paid” experience as a photojournalist. Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and have excellent organizational skills. NPPA skills and prior management experience preferred. Must have desire to succeed with good leadership ability.
INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER
Work as investigative reporter, establish contacts, identify stories of relevance to the community, report live and taped as assigned, and adhere to newsroom policies about news gathering and fair/accurate reporting/writing. Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field required. Minimum three years paid broadcast news reporting. Must have a history of producing compelling, promotable investigative stories on a regular basis. Must be able to thoroughly, accurately and properly research all information. Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and be computer literate. Must be team player with ability to work under pressure.
NEWSCAST DIRECTOR
Direct and switch live, multi-camera newscasts. Operate switcher, still store, and Grass Valley Kalypso as well as camera, audio board, character generator, and Avstar computer systems. College degree preferred. Two years broadcast television experience as a director and/or technical director. Must be a leader who is pro-active, creative, takes initiative, reacts quickly, projects a positive attitude, and keeps their composure during stressful situations.
EXECUTIVE PRODUCER
Manage the performance of the producers and associate producers, oversee and enterprise team coverage and special events, prevent on-air mistakes, enhance newscasts through an innovative use of graphics, work with reporters to make their stories better, work with the desk to improve quality and quantity of coverage, take a lead role in breaking news and have a firm grip on local news. Requires degree in Journalism or related field and 3 years broadcast television producing experience. Major market and/or management experience preferred. Web experience a plus. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are essential.
BACKPACK JOURNALIST
Must be able to work independently, gather information and discern its newsworthiness in an extremely high-pressure, fast-paced environment. Will research, write in broadcast style with brevity and clarity, and present news stories on the air in a professional yet engaging manner. Must possess strong on-camera skills as well as have experience using techniques involved in the editing process. The Backpack Journalist is responsible for gathering news material, interviewing persons both on and off camera, obtaining video and/or still images, editing video material, participating in the editorial process, preparing and presenting packages/reports both on and off the air. Familiarity with non-linear editing equipment such as AVID, as well as photojournalism cameras such as the D.C. Pro is a must. Bachelor’s degree in journalism preferred. Applicant must have experience in broadcast reporting: a minimum of 2 years in broadcast journalism including shooting and editing experience. Must have valid driver license and clean driving record. Must be able to lift 30-40 lbs. Must be able to meet aggressive deadlines while completing high-quality stories.
PHOTOGRAPHER
Shoot/Edit on P2 camera. Operate camera, lights, wireless mics, portable/permanent editing gear, microwave truck, Avstar newsroom software, cell phone, and 2-way. Willingly accept direction from assignment desk. Requires degree in Journalism or related field and 2 years paid broadcast news photography experience. Must have good eye and ability to tell a compelling story with the camera.
PROMOTION ASSOCIATE PRODUCER
Will edit spot tags for network and syndication promos and topical promos. Will assist with videography and assist in the production of large-scale promo shoots, as needed. Must have minimum 2 years non-linear editing and 1 year videography experience. College degree preferred. Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Need to be self-starter who is flexible and maintains a positive attitude
WEB PRODUCER
Conceptualize, produce and create high profile creative on-line material. Perform duties of on-line writer/producer, specializing in print style writing, copy editing, and editorial gathering. Knowledge of HTML, JSP, FLASH, and Photoshop preferred. Interface with newsroom managers to create compelling web material that utilizes new distribution platforms and capitalizes the use of information from various sources. Ensure website is coded to standards consistent with web style guidelines set by national in-house web team. Bachelor’s degree and minimum three years web production management preferred. Knowledge of web production, traffic reporting, and ad serving systems preferred. Applicant must have solid understanding of web standards, design, and usability as well as knowledge of print and broadcast news standards/styles. Should also have knowledge of common web applications/architecture. Highly skilled in all areas of a/v digitizing, editing, and encoding techniques. Advanced knowledge of internet publishing software and content management systems and understanding of user on-line behavior. Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and adhere to strict deadlines. Excellent communication skills are essential.
SR WEB PRODUCER

Expert knowledge of web production, traffic reporting, and ad serving systems. Solid understanding of web standards, design, and usability as well as knowledge of print and b’cast news standards/styles. Knowledge of common web applications/architecture. Highly skilled in all areas of a/v digitizing, editing, and encoding techniques. Advanced knowledge of internet publishing software and content mgmt systems and understanding of user on-line behavior. Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and adhere to strict deadlines. Excellent communication skills are essential.
ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE
Service/maintain existing account list (agency and direct), develop new business, increase station revenue/share of existing accounts. Cold calling and prospecting required. Assist in annual budgeting process, achieve budget and market share goals, and accurately forecast existing revenue and potential revenue to management. College degree preferred. Minimum 1 year sales experience required—broadcast experience a Plus! Knowledge of research programs such as: TVScan, Nielsen, Scarborough, and/or CMR preferred. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Must be self-motivated with proven track record of success. Must be able to work under pressure, be extremely organized, and maintain a team spirit.
SALES ASSISTANT
Responsible for clerical functions of sales dept to include: producing sales presentations and misc sales projects, answering phones, processing orders, handling correspondence, organizing files to insure SAQ compliance, maintaining databases, and other duties as assigned. College degree preferred. Requires minimum one year data entry experience preferably in a corporate office environment. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel PowerPoint). Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Must be self-motivated, extremely organized, have a keen eye for detail, work well under pressure with ability to meet stringent guidelines, understand team concept, and project a positive attitude.
.HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: station recruitment and applicant tracking, maintenance of personnel/confidential files, processing required paperwork for all status changes including salaries, promotions, hires, terms, and leaves. Will also be responsible for enforcing company human resources policies and procedures, preparing various monthly and annual reports including EEO, FCC, and OSHA, participating in annual budgeting process, instructing dept heads on proper procedures for recruitment, employment law, disciplinary matters, and company policies. Will assist in resolving employee conflicts. Degree in Human Resources or related discipline and minimum 3 yrs Human Resources management experience required. Broadcast experience helpful! Must be a hands-on generalist who is a self-starter with a positive attitude. Must have solid working knowledge of employment laws both Federal and State. Must possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal as well as excellent time management and organizational skills.
