MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Lynn Lampkin joined FOX13 Memphis in October, 2010.
The Clarksdale, Mississippi native comes to us from Greenville, Mississippi where she worked as Weekend Anchor.
Before Greenville, Lynn worked as a reporter at the Fox affiliate in Jackson, Mississippi. She also freelanced at the ABC affiliate while there.
During her tenure in the Capitol City, Lynn covered everything from state budget battles, to city council and the police department.
Her investigation into the early release of non-violent state prisoners due to overcrowding revealed that over 100 Mississippi prisoners that were being considered for early release had been convicted of violent crimes.
Lynn's most memorable stories include the 2008 Presidential Debate at Ole Miss, the federal court case of late Jackson Mayor Frank E. Melton, the ribbon cutting ceremony of the B.B. King museum in Indianola, and flooding devastation in Vicksburg.
"The only way to view the flood area was to travel by boat. Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace and one of his deputies escorted my photographer and I," Lampkin recalled. "I'd never been on a boat before and warned Pace that I was terrified. Seconds after he assured my safe return, we wrecked. Apparently, our boat had hit a submerged vehicle. We were all tossed around. Besides minor damage to the camera, we survived. Needless to say, we were able to get exclusive and compelling video and interviewed the one resident who refused to leave to take shelter."
Lynn received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Mississippi. In 2006, she returned to her alma mater to obtain her Master of Arts degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Southern Studies. Her graduate studies also led her to Paris, France where she honed her creative writing skills. She completed a thesis documentary on the Blues and Clarksdale.
She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, the National Association of REALTORS, and the Georgia Association of REALTORS.
In her free time, you can find her hanging out at coffee shops, usually with her Nikon lens strapped around her neck.
This former track athlete also enjoys running and mentoring "at risk" young girls.
