Anchor, FOX13 Weekend News
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -
You can see Melissa Scheffler anchor FOX13 News at Five and Nine on the weekends. The rest of the time, you will find her reporting.
Recently, Melissa earned two Regional Emmy nominations for her work covering the developments of Jonesboro school shooter Mitchell Johnson after his release from lock-up.
Melissa joined FOX13 in October 2004 as the reporter for Good Morning Memphis. After a year of overnight shifts, Melissa moved to anchoring the weekends.
While at FOX13, Melissa has reported on stories that matter to the Mid-South... like the Mary Winkler Trial, the Lester Street Massacre, even the 2008 Oxford Presidential Debate.
During her career as a journalist, Melissa covered one of Oregon's largest wildfires in history, a murder trial for an Oregon State Police Trooper in training, and the September 11th terrorist attacks.
Before moving to the Bluff City, Melissa spent two years in the Northwest. She worked in Medford, Oregon as a weeknight anchor, reporter, photographer, and producer at KDRV.
Melissa is proud to say she started her career in Columbia, Missouri. She was an anchor, reporter, photographer, and producer for KOMU.
She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Bachelors degree in Journalism and a minor in Religious Studies. She also studied British Literature in London.
In her spare time, you will find Melissa outside. The "great outdoors" has always been a part of her life. Melissa grew up on a farm in South Central Kansas, where her family still lives today.
The rest of the time, Melissa is on the phone... catching up with her five younger sisters. And, of course, cheering on her Mizzou Tigers!
