MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Nearly a month after the DTV switch and some people are still having a hard time tuning in certain channels.
If you have a TV in your house that's not picking up FOX13 or know someone who can't see us, we have some easy things to try to ensure you get your favorite fox shows.
FOX13 General Manager, John Koski says, "The fact is FOX13 can be picked up over the air and I know it for a fact because I've done it myself."
After the June 12th switch, Koski embarked on a mission to find FOX13 using different antennas in different places. He says people, who are still having trouble getting certain channels and had a converter box before June 12th, might need to double re-scan.
Koski says, "take the converter box disconnect antenna, pull if off then rescan. The converter box will be scanning for nothing, it will clear the system out then plug antenna back in and ask it to scan another time."
Also, try moving the antenna.
Koski says, "It's a lot simpler than some people would think that is but it's a matter of moving the antenna this way or this way based on where you are. You have to apply a little bit of patience, move and scan, move and scan again and see what comes up."
But FOX13 has learned, sometimes the new antennas aren't coming with the proper gear.
We found a $10 antenna that works fine, but it comes with a 2 screw transformer instead of the 4 screw transformer needed to get every channel. The 4 screw transformer costs a couple bucks but makes a big difference.
Koski says, "So when I did connect it to the transformer with 4 screws it worked just great I was able to pick up everybody!"
Fox 13 found another glitch in the digital switch, ill informed salespeople. Store clerks telling people certain stations have low power or inferior signals. That's not accurate.
Koski adds, "What is accurate is in some cases it's a little trickier to pick up."
So, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
Koski says, "We just want to make sure people get the right information and don't give up because you really can tune in our channel, it's just a little bit tricky but we'll figure a way out."
Here's another tip, some people are getting Fox 13 with the antennae lying flat, like this.
