  • HOW TO SEARCH FOR YOUR LOST PET AT THE MEMPHIS ANIMAL SHELTER

by Lost and Found Pets of the MidSouth

Memphis Animal Services is high-kill, do not wait!! Pit bull types DIE FIRST. If your dog "looks like" a PIT BULL, EVEN IF IT IS NOT, that dog will be euthanized in some cases IMMEDIATELY. No Animals are safe there!

GO TO THE SHELTER IN PERSON. An estimated 30/40 A DAY (yes a DAY) are NEVER photographed or put online. Memphis Animal Services takes in 1500 pets every month. They kill about 1200 of them. The chance your pets survives the shelter is a 1 in 5 chance. SO ACT FAST.

HOW to search for your lost pet at the Memphis Animal Shelter

WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT MAS, DO THIS EXACTLY, DO NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER:

    1. Ask a staff person to show you the "PRE-HOLDING AREA" this is the area the animal control officers first drop off strays and lost dogs and is often forgotten about by staff.

    2. Ask a staff person to show you the "STRAY HOLD AREA" this area is on LOCK-DOWN and often overlooked by staff who forget dogs are there waiting to be found by their owners.

    3. Ask a staff person to show you the "QUARANTINED AREA" in case the staff decide your dog has "kennel cough" and separate them from the others, never again to be seen.

    4. Ask a staff person to show you the "MAIN FLOOR" this is the area with dogs that are off stray hold and are now adoptable.

    5. Ask a staff person to show you any outside Kennel or run areas.

    6. Ask a staff person to show you any animals in the clinic area or any that are in the euthanasia room.

**STAFF PERSON is an employee of the shelter not a volunteer.

IF YOU STILL HAVE NOT FOUND YOUR DOG

BE VIGILANT!!!!!! CHECK the shelter every 3 Days without FAIL. Between Shelter checks you can view the shelter intakes on Petharbor.com http://www.petharbor.com/ Remember this IS NOT a complete list of the animals at the shelter. NO one will look out for your beloved pet BUT YOU. Leave a PHOTOGRAPH and your PHONE NUMBER with a staff person and TAKE DOWN THEIR NAME. Then return to the shelter and REPEAT all above steps!!! DO NOT ALLOW THEM to let your beloved dog slip through the cracks. Just because your pet went missing in the last 24 hours does not mean it will be at the shelter immediately. Your pet could be picked up weeks after it went missing. Your pet is depending on you to find it. Do not stop looking. Their life depends on YOU!

***If your pet is microchipped DO NOT DEPEND ON THE SHELTER STAFF TO FIND THE MICROCHIP. GO TO THE SHELTER!!!!!!!
